7th Magnificat String Competition
December 6th 2015
The competition celebrating string instruments
Seventy-five young music students coming from Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ramallah competed in the 7th Magnificat String Competition. The event took place during the first weekend of December, in the packed Immaculata Hall at St. Saviour’s Monastery.
The entire Friday, December 4, was devoted to the competition. Two separate juries had the task to evaluate the performances; professors Chiara Craglietto and Roberto Solci from the Conservatory of Vicenza (Italy), together with Reem Handal of the Bethlehem Academy of Music, judged the violin and viola players while musicians Maron Wasser and Jonatan Birenbaum evaluated the guitar and cello competitors. Each competitor had to present two pieces: a compulsory one according to their category and a piece of choice.
The award ceremony took place straight after the concert and saw the participation of the Custos Fr. Pizzaballa and Br. David Grenier, director of the Magnificat Institute.
Everybody -participants, families, audience- left the concert hall with a smile on their face: it was yet another evening of beautiful music at the Magnificat in Jerusalem.
